A timeless classic since its debut in 1938, you can’t get more British than Baracuta G9 Harrington Jacket. Made in beautiful Manchester in the UK, the G9 Harrington is the first of its kind. The two creative geniuses behind the G9 are the Miller Brothers. John and Isaac Miller had been in the rainwear industry for some time before Baracuta was formed. This gave them the expertise and experience to create one of the most iconic jackets of all time: the G9. It all began at the Manchester Golf Club clubhouse, where the brothers noticed that golfers weren't wearing jackets suitable for playing in the rain. This led to the idea of designing a jacket that offered freedom of movement and at the same time maximum protection from the rain. The Harrington jacket origins are reflected by the name G9 - "G" for Golf, 9 like a nine-hole golf course. Every element was studied in detail: the two buttoned stand collar, the umbrella back yoke to channel rain away and the buttoned flap pockets to hold two golf balls. Permission to use the Fraser tartan for the G9’s distinctive lining was granted by Lord Lovat, Brigadier Simon Christopher Joseph Fraser, a descendant of William I of Scotland.
Did you know the G9 has a twin? That’s right! It’s called the G4 and shares many similarities to the G9, but like all siblings, there are some differences too. According to Baracuta’s archives the G4 was created in 1944, only a few years after the famous G9. It has an alternative straight, wider silhouette and a looser fit, without the elasticated waist featured by the Harrington Jacket. Its design ensures freedom of movement and protection from the rain. It features the iconic front pockets with angled flap, a high collar with two buttons, and the unmistakable water-repelling umbrella back yoke. Like the G9, the G4 features the brand’s hallmark Fraser Tartan lining.
There has been a new addition to the Baracuta family. Meet the G12. This new entry made its début for the AW22 collection coming straight from the Baracuta archives. As the G12 is an evolution of the G10, it had to keep its distinctive features like the single-breasted closure, the diagonal pockets, the adjustable wrist buckles, the signature umbrella back yoke and the iconic Fraser Tartan lining. It’s a new take on the classic Trench Coat, however without the belt and with effortless urban style. The G12, with its soft, gentle structure, is an extremely elegant raincoat. It has a deliberately looser fit and is also designed to be worn with its inner lining attachment to provide extra protection from the cold and rainy Winter. The G12 is a longer silhouette compared to the shorter G10 and is made from our iconic Baracuta Cloth.
